Accidental rooster greets the morning

We have lived in Old Agoura for years and love the rural nature of the area. We have had new neighbors move in and much to our pleasure they decided to build a chicken coop. It is a beautiful coop and adds to the neighborhood.

They bought several chicks that were all supposed to be hens laying a variety of different eggs. The chicks lived in the garage while the coop was lovingly constructed.

We asked if there would be a rooster in the bunch and were told that they only wanted hens and expected the chicks to be all hens. The coop was built and the chicks which had grown were released.

Murphy’s Law kicked in and, low and behold, one of the hens turned out to be a rooster. This juvenile rooster is learning how to crow, much to our neighbor’s consternation but very much to our happiness. As we go out for our morning walks we are greeted by the rooster. What a wonderful addition to our neighborhood and a great way to greet the day.

May the accidental rooster live long and crow about our little corner of the world.
