About that signal on Mulholland

The environment is a necessary concern when planning any structure that could impact a view or cause damage to a natural habitat. A 20-foot traffic light will not block any view. As for the environmental habitat, this light will be placed in the same spot as an existing pole. If one is concerned about the environmental effects, then the fact that the traffic light will reduce carbon emission by lessening idling times should be a motivating factor toward this project.

This stoplight will also improve the safety of all cars passing through this intersection. To combine with the knowledge that Calabasas High School is nearby and many inexperienced drivers pass through this intersection daily, the safety of the children of the community should be considered. Although many people seem worried that this traffic light is leading to increased urbanization, traffic lights do not bring on an industrial revolution.

Small towns can still acknowledge problems and fix them without evolving into a large city. Arnold Bennett once said, “Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.” Discomfort and insecurity should not block this necessary progress.
