SAVE THE DATE—Judy Doane, president of Westlake Village Garden Club, and Mary Carbonniere of Vintage Grocers at The Promenade are promoting the club’s annual garden tour set for Sun., April 23.

Judy Doane, president of the Westlake Village Garden Club, and Maryanne Lucas, Westlake Village Garden Tour chair, are promoting the 44th annual Garden Tour to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., April 23.

The tour will feature four distinctive gardens.

The garden club, comprised of more than 100 members, spends 10 months planning this community event.

A sampling of small bites will be served at one of the gardens amid a landscape, vineyard and live background music.

A second garden is an urban paradise with an artistic mix of hardscapes, succulents and drought-tolerant plants. A landscape designer will be on hand to share ideas and answer questions.

At the third garden, floral demonstrations from members and XO Bloom in Westlake Village will be on view for al fresco entertaining against the backdrop of a sparkling pool and a deck cantilevered over a natural arroyo with scenic views.

A fourth garden features a compact suburban farm with chickens, grapevines and plants.

At this garden, kids can take part in special activities presented by Kids Growing Strong, a nonprofit organization that demonstrates how fruits and vegetables grow from seeds.

Children can take home a “garden in a carton” which includes six types of vegetable seeds they can plant.

In addition there will be hands-on kids activities such as making pollinator masks with wild flower seeds and painting pollinator rocks that turn into ladybugs.

Attendees can pick up free seeds, an herb kit or an heirloom tomato plant.

The major sponsor of the tour is Vintage Grocers.

Tickets are available at Armstrong Garden Center in Thousand Oaks; Decor Store and XO Bloom, both in Westlake Village, and Nordic Nursery in Newbury Park.

Tickets can also be purchased at westlakevillagegardenclub.org.

Tickets are $25. Children under 12 are admitted at no charge.

Funds raised through the sale of tour tickets will provide scholarships and also go to a variety of worthy nonprofit organizations that enhance and protect the natural landscape.
