EXPERT WRITER-Red Oak Elementary School fourth-grader Troy Just wins first place in the "California Letters About Literature" writing contest. In the competition, students write a letter to an author, living or dead, explaining how their work inspired them or changed their way of viewing the world. Troy had written a letter to Katie Couric about her book, "The Brand New Kid," relating Couric's story to Troy's own experiences in changing schools. Troy will now compete in the national "Letters About Literature" contest.  |
