New Jewish center opens in Calabasas
Rabbi Ron Li-Paz, Chaplain Jennifer Nye and musical director Jack Bielan announced the grand opening of Valley Outreach Synagogue’s Center for Jewish Life, a synagogue and Jewish community center at 26670 Agoura Road in Calabasas.
Opening ceremonies will take place at noon Sun., March 19.
The new center will serve the Conejo Valley, San Fernando Valley and Malibu communities.
Since its founding in 1985, Valley Outreach Synagogue has been without walls, holding services and events in various temporary locations.
The 600 VOS families, board of directors and clergy now have a permanent home for religious services and family functions.
Recognizing the loss of many Southern California Jewish community centers over the last decade, VOS is expanding its mission of outreach with a center that will offer religious and secular classes and programs.
Momentum Academies, associated with enrichment programs in Malibu and the greater Conejo Valley, has been engaged to provide recreational programming for children and adults in the VOS Center for Jewish Life.
VOS’ s home-based JEWELS Jewish Education program for children and teens, now in its ninth year, will continue throughout the community.
