Local healthy living expo returns
Healthy living is the theme of the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation’s upcoming health expo.
Community Health Expo II will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., March 31 at the Agoura/Calabasas Community Center.
According to Karen Malatesta, the foundation’s executive director, the health expo is a free interactive event with activities for the entire family.
“Healthy Living for a Healthy Future” is a theme designed for every age group, she said.
“Last year’s expo was a smash hit, so we are excited to bring this fun and informative event back to our community,” said Louis Celaya, deputy city manager for Agoura Hills and this year’s chair of the health expo.
“ Health Expo II features some of the most popular programs from last year, including a wide range of exhibits, product demonstrations and eye-opening lectures from experts on hot topics, including heart health and nutrition,” Celaya said.
The Rotary Club of Calabasas will sponsor a blood drive. People can sign up to donate blood at www.calabasasrotary.org. Walkin donors will also be welcome.
Free blood pressure and BMI screenings will be conducted throughout the day, and Los Robles Hospital will offer a new service this year—blood panel screenings for $25. The panel will include a complete blood count, lipid profile, and glucose and PSA screenings. An eight-hour fast is required for the service.
Malatesta said that because there is limited space for walk-ins for the blood panel screenings, sign-up forms should be obtained in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center’s workout facilities and rock climbing wall will be available for use at no charge. Free fitness classes will also be offered.
The Organic Oasis food truck will sell healthy meals, snacks, and smoothies, Malatesta said.
The expo’s major sponsors are the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation and Los Robles Hospital. Other sponsors are Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center, The Acorn Newspapers and Pain Management and Injury Relief Medical Center.
Exhibitor opportunities for the Community Health Expo II are still available.
