Cupcakes for Cancer a tasty recipe for health

Cupcakes for Cancer, a nonprofi t created in 2007 by then 13-year-old Blakely Colvin of Solvang, will present the inaugural Cupcake Camp Conejo Valley from 1 to 4 p.m. Sun., Feb. 26 at the Westlake Village Inn, 31943 Agoura Road.

The event is a fundraiser for the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, which provides programs free of charge to individuals affected by cancer and their families.

The event will have cupcake tastings sponsored by local cupcake companies, a bakers competition, an old-fashioned cake auction, cupcake crafts boutique, a cupcake-eating contest and a princess costume parade.

Cupcake competitions will take place at the professional, amateur and youth levels. Categories include Best Conejo Valley Themed, Most Unique Ingredient and Best Tasting Cupcake.

With the help of family and friends, Cupcakes for Cancer founder Blake Colvin, now 17, has raised enough funds to grant seven wishes for the Make-AWish Foundation of the Tricounties, donated $20,000 to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, contributed funds to CureSearch for pediatric cancer research and donated two $1,000 college scholarships to two graduating seniors.

Blake and her organization have raised a total of $85,000 by selling $1 cupcakes. Her goal is to donate $100,000 by her graduation this year. Blake is a cancer survivor.

Baker spaces are limited. The $20 entry fee includes four cupcake tastings, milk and coffee. Tickets are available at the door or online.
