Top prizes in writing contest
The winners of the 12th annual Ventura County Writers Club Short Story Contest were recently announced.
The authors read their winning entries at the Jan. 10 meeting of the club, which will include presentation of award and a celebration reception.
The contest had more than 100 entries, many from around the country.
The winners are as follows. The first, second and third place winners received cash prizes.
First place: Bill Stermer of Camarillo for “The Last Speed Run.”
Second place: Roni Hooper of Camarillo for “Holding on to Hawaii.”
Third place: Sheli Ellsworth of Thousand Oaks for “Lynchburg Correctional, 1845.”
Honorable Mention: Carol Fogel of Thousand Oaks, Frank Leupp of Camarillo, and Jan Schulman of Oxnard.
