Oak Park garden fundraiser

The eighth annual Oak Park Community Garden Pumpkin Patch will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Oct. 22 and 23 at the Oak Park Community Garden on the northwest corner of Sunnycrest Drive and Kanan Road.

The fundraiser will benefit the Oak Park Community Gardeners, a nonprofit community group. Funds raised will be used to purchase tools, supplies and equipment for the garden.

The event will have a pumpkin sale, garden tours and photo opportunities. Members of the Oak Park Community Gardeners will be on hand to provide information about the garden.

Admission is free.

The younger gardeners will raise money for pediatric cancer by selling lemonade for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Pediatric Cancer Research during the weekend event. Proceeds will help fund research into cures and treatments for battling cancer.

The Oak Park Community Garden is an activity committee of the Community Foundation for Oak Park and is on land owned and operated by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. The purpose is to maintain an organic community garden that will provide education and beautification for the community.

Presently 65 parcels have been allocated to residents, who have planted a large assortment of vegetables and flowers.

Six 10-by-20-foot parcels are available to anyone in the community interested in joining. The plots can be used for planting flowers or vegetables.
