Rancho Simi recycling plastic bags

Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District invites residents to drop off their plastic grocery bags at one of two district offices. The bags are used year-round at both Simi Dog Park and Oak Canyon Dog Park for dog clean up.

Clean plastic grocery bags can be dropped off at the Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive, Door A-2, Simi Valley, and the Oak Park Community Center, 1000 N. Kanan Road. Both locations have a container in the front lobby for the bags.

Company offices, churches, service clubs, scouts and other groups can collect plastic bags from their members for drop off. Bags are needed all year long.

A team of young adults from ARC collects the plastic grocery bags from the Simi Valley district office weekly and delivers the bags to the Simi Dog Park.

Villa Esperanza participants and their staff members collect the bags from the Oak Park Community Center and deliver them to Oak Canyon Dog Park.

The program offers adults with disabilities an opportunity to work on job skills, while helping the park district provide bags to dog owners who need to clean up after their pets at the parks.

Both ARC and Villa Esperanza participants assist with other volunteer jobs such as cleaning park play equipment with antibacterial wipes, cleaning interpretive markers throughout the parks, and filling Mutt Mitt stations throughout the park system.

Colleen Janssen, marketing and community outreach specialist, supervises the more than 600 volunteers serving the district.
