Student makes the grade
Vera Eastman Vera Eastman, a 2007 graduate of Oak Park High School and a resident of Moorpark, will be graduating from Yale University on May 24. Eastman majored in anthropology with a pre-medical curriculum.
Next year, she will continue her studies at Columbia University to obtain a masters in medical anthropology before continuing on to medical school.
During the summer of 2009, Eastman volunteered at the Indian Health Services Medical Center on the Sisseton Wahpeton Reservation in South Dakota. While there, she also studied the Dakotah language and tribal history and culture. In the summer of 2010, she worked for the Center for Infections in England, doing research on tuberculosis and the cultural components of its epidemiology. And over spring break this year she went to Vietnam to participate in Yale’s outreach volunteer program.
Eastman went to Oak Park High as a transfer student.
