Oak Park water tank construction begins
Triunfo Sanitation District, owner and operator of Oak Park Water Service, will start construction June 9 on a new 2-milliongallon water storage reservoir in the hills east of Lindero Canyon Road and north of Kanan Road in Oak Park.
The work, which includes installation of new pipeline, valves and a control facility, will take about a year to complete.
The new Oak Canyon Tank will replace an aging, smaller tank near Conifer Street and Conifer Circle. Engineering studies determined that the Conifer tank sits on an old landslide and its foundation is not suitable for seismic retrofitting.
The old tank will be dismantled once the new reservoir goes into service, and the area will be restored to natural vegetation.
“The new tank will be constructed of pre-stressed concrete and will be buried underground,” said Michael Paule, chair of the Triunfo Sanitation District board of directors. “As a result, visibility from nearby neighborhoods will be minimal. This project has been a long time in the planning stages and represents an important step in maintaining the quality and reliability of Oak Park’s water supply.”
Triunfo officials have scheduled a project launch at 10 a.m. Thurs., June 9 in Oak Canyon Park, 5600 Hollytree Ave., Oak Park. Members of the public are also welcome.
Oak Park Water Service purchases 100 percent of its potable water from the State Water Project via Calleguas Municipal Water District. For more information about the Oak Canyon Tank, visit http://triunfosanitationdistrict.com.
