Four area Scouts earn their wings

KEITH MORSE/Special to The Acorn Oak Park residents Austen Thompson, Andrew Taylor, Burdette “Beau” Jordan and Stanley Skinner of Agoura Hills received their Eagle Scout badges in a March 19 Court of Honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Oak Park.
The boys earned 21 badges and completed a service project to achieve the highest rank in Scouting.
Austen built box gardens at Oak View Continuation School to help teach students about organic farming, landscaping and food management. Andrew repaired and repainted two classroom ramps and a 30-foot exterior wall at Brookside Elementary School. Stanley built an outdoor nature path next to the LDS church in Oak Park and Beau made improvements at the Oak Park High baseball facility, removing a dilapidated home team dugout roof and replacing it with a new one. Repairs were also made to the interiors and exteriors of both the home team and visitor dugouts.
Austen is a senior at Agoura High and has been involved in water polo, track and swimming. He also was a member of Student Government and Math Honor Society. Andrew is a sophomore at Oak Park High with interests in science, computers and music. Beau, a sophomore at OPHS, plays on the baseball and basketball teams. His favorite classes are biology and history.
Stanley is a senior at AHS where he has enjoyed being on the wrestling team for four years, singing in the school choir and participating in numerous school plays.
Stanley and Austen are members of Venture Crew 2956 and Beau and Andrew belong to Varsity Team 6756.
