Eagle freshman scores 32 points in one quarter
Michael Jordan never had a quarter like this.
During an Oak Park High frosh-soph boys’ basketball game at Fillmore on Jan. 19, Eagle freshman shooting guard Trent Mogavero scored 32 points in the first quarter of a blowout 64-30 OPHS victory.
According to head coach Kelly Ross, Mogavero hit 10-of-11 3-point baskets in the opening quarter. The freshman added a short-range jump shot to complete the scoring barrage.
“He had three 3-pointers in literally 16 seconds,” Ross said. “But Trent is a good shooter. It isn’t like he just caught lightning in a bottle and was just chucking it at the rim.
“Still, it was pretty awesome. His mom, dad and little brother were all there to see it, so that made it cool. And both refs were smiling. It was fun.”
Because Oak Park had such a large lead, Mogavero played sparingly the rest of the game and finished with 32 points.
The Eagle frosh-soph squad entered Wednesday’s action 8-8 overall and 4-1 in the Tri-Valley League.
