Tri-Valley League tips its cap to fall’s top student-athletes

The Tri-Valley League honored student-athletes from fall sports teams at Oak Park, Oaks Christian and La Reina high schools.

Here is a breakdown of the postseason awards:

Girls’ cross country

Kaycee Holcomb, who placed sixth at the Division 3 girls’ state championship race, is the Tri- Valley League MVP in girls’ cross country.

Holcomb also led the Eagles to a league championship.

First-team standouts are Christina Garcia of Oaks Christian; Oak Park’s Taelor Young and Kendall Engelhardt; and Bailey Rohlfing, Jordan Jeworski and Alexandra Cerise of La Reina.

Second- team runners are OPHS’ Candace Matsunaga and Brittany Stalzar; and Krista Andressen and Kelly Chow of La Reina.

Honorable mention nods go to Regents Rachel Brajkovich, Alyssa Frank and Hayley Walke; Xcaret Osario and Kelsey Watters of Oak Park; and Megan Huning, Niki MacWhirter and Amy Anderson for the Lions.

Robert Lopez of La Reina is the Coach of the Year.

Boys’ cross country

Sahm Bazargan of Oak Park is on the TVL boys’ cross country first team.

Other local first-team runners are Blake Minasian and Ryan Zelada of Oak Park; and Ryan Huning of Oaks Christian.

Second-team runners are the Lions’ Vincent Colarossi; and Eagles Michael Tucker and Andy Khaw.

Honorable mentions go to Oak Park’s Patrick Thedinga and James Anderson; and Jacob White, Derek Stoutland and Andrew Levine of Oaks Christian.

Girls’ volleyball

Katherine Workman of La Reina is the Most Valuable Player in the TVL for girls’ volleyball.

Workman, a junior outside hitter, led the Regents to a league title, their 16th in 17 years with head coach Don Hyatt.

First-team stars are Kristin Wendel, Sara Anselmo and Sarah Hardy of La Reina; Oaks Christian’s Tara Robinson, Michele Boskovich and Lauren Peddicord; and Rachel Gam and Kori Denning of Oak Park.

Second- team players are Christina Zins for the Regents; Lions Lauren Shamoon and Nicole Leonard; and Carly Silliman for the Eagles.

Honorable mention honors go to Jami Fido and Annalisa Chesser of La Reina; Oaks Christian’s Madison Howard and Shayne Kybartas; and Danielle Messina, Lindsey Newman and Erin Matsumoto of Oak Park.

Football

Several Oak Park standouts earned all-league football honors.

Jeremy Chang, Conner Hill, Connor McFadden, Connor Phillips, Chris Taylor, Justin Williams, Aki Zapata and Nick Rogers represent OPHS on the first team.

Luca Bruno, Nick Morelli, Matt Carson, Ryan Shaffer and Trevor Alexander are on the second team.

Anthony Pounds, Marc Flammer, R.J. Almada, Luke Kelly and Adam Kanizo earned honorable mention nods.

Girls’ tennis

Abigail Pingel and Sara Morris of Oaks Christian shared doubles MVP honors in TVL girls’ tennis.

Lion teammates Tori Sanford, Mackenzie Kalantari and Manali MacRae are on the first team with La Reina’s Lauren Rodewald and Olivia Aulicino.

Oak Park’s Jessica Hsieh and Mina Saffarian are on the second team.

Girls’ golf

JoJo Sottile of La Reina is the player of the year in girls’ golf.

Regent teammates Celia Sacks and Carly Stalnaker join Oaks Christian’s Juliet Ponte and Chloe Fang on the first team.

Second- team golfers are Madison Rosinsky and Christiana Ritchie for the Lions; and La Reina’s Mary Pfaff and Kirsten Mosesson.

Honorable mention nods go to Oaks Christian’s Nicole Pelino and Danielle Burr, and Krista McPherson of La Reina.

Boys’ water polo

Cole Barratte and Alec Follmer of Oaks Christian are on the TVL boys’ water polo first team.

Teammates Matt Gonzalez and Alistair Fleming are on the second team. Josh Davis of the Lions is honorable mention.
