Oak Park’s Holcomb advances to state cross country meet

The finish line is in sight for Kaycee Holcomb.

Holcomb, an Oak Park High senior, qualified as an individual to run at the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Last weekend, the Eagle completed the CIF-Southern Section finals Division 3 girls’ race in 18:46, good for sixth place.

“She did a real good job of hanging with the top group,” Oak Park co-head coach Steve Kilroy said. “She never let the leaders get away. I definitely think it was a bounce-back race from the week before.”

Camarillo advanced to the Division 2 boys’ finals at state. Simi Valley’s girls and La Reina will also run Saturday.

Sophie Mateu of Royal and Thousand Oaks’ Melanie Joerger qualified as individuals.

No local team advanced to the state meet.

The Eagle girls finished 10th in the CIF-SS finals Division 3 race. The Oak Park boys were 16th. Westlake’s boys nabbed ninth in the Division 2 race. Agoura’s girls settled for 15th in Division 3 while the Oaks Christian girls were 16th in Division 4.
