Ride the rails for fun with Filmore & Western

The Fillmore & Western Railway has several train trips planned for this month. All trips run rain or shine and depart and return at the Fillmore Central Park station.

July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31: Saturday Scenic Excursion Train Rides. Lunch available at added cost in the diner. Brief layover in Santa Paula, second stop at Loose Caboose Garden Center and Gift Emporium. Depart noon, return 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. Adults $24; seniors $22; youth 4 to 12, $14; child 2 to 3, $10. Cab rides $50 per segment.

July 11, 18, 25: Sunday Scenic Excursion, Wine and Honey Express. With the purchase of a meal in the parlor car or diner, passengers will receive complimentary wine tasting of up to three different wines. Adults $24; seniors $22; youth 4 to 12, $14; child 2 to 3, $10. Meals additional charge.

July 2: Shake, Rattle and Rail Family Dinner Train. 50s revue night. DJ plays tunes of 50s and 60s in onboard dance car. Diner food is served before arrival at Santa Paula classic car show. Adults $47; youth 4 to 12, $32; child 2 to 3, $24. Under 2 free on lap, ride only, no dinner included.

July 4: Sespe Creek Car Show and Festival. More than 250 classic cars pre-1974 on display on streets of downtown Fillmore. Car show runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with awards given at 4 p.m. Festival includes arts, crafts, commercial and food vendors, annual horseshoe tournament. Live band House Arrest plays on steps of Fillmore City Hall. Event is family friendly, alcohol-free. Onehour train rides depart at 1 and 3 p.m. Adults $14; youth 4 to 12, $8; child 2 to 3, $6.

July 4: Firecracker Barbecue Train. Onboard dinner of barbecue tri-tip and chicken, potato salad, chili beans, garlic bread, chef’s special dessert, coffee or tea. After train trip, view fireworks show, presented by city of Fillmore. P. Maxwell Production acting troupe entertains passengers during trip. Adults $72; youth 4 to 12, $41; child 2 to 3, $22. Infants under 2 years of age are free on the lap of a parent, no seat and no meal.

July 10: Viva Los Vegas Murder Mystery Dinner Train. New murder mystery set in the Vegas days of the “Rat Pack.” Departs 6:30 p.m., returns 9:30 p.m. $89 per person, adults 18 years and over only. Reservations required.

July 17: Margarita Madness. Three-hour journey with Mexican dinner and a margarita. Live band and dancing on open-air dance car. Departs 6:30 p.m., returns: 9:30 p.m. Adults only, $53.

July 24: Cirque Du Foul Play Murder Mystery. Travel back to 1955 to visit the traveling Circus Royale. $89 per person, adults over 18 only. Reservations are required.
