Dogs have their day at Nuts for Mutts

The sixth annual Nuts for Mutts—The Walk and Festival will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun., April 18 at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas.

Admission to the festival is free.

The event will be presented in conjunction with the Calabasas Rotary Club and the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.

The fundraiser will feature a 5K walk-athon through the hills of Calabasas. The route will include “pawzstations” with water, food and activities for pets of all kinds and their human companions.

The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce will operate a beer garden and celebrity judges will be on hand. The event benefits the New Leash On Life Animal Rescue, the Calabasas Rotary Club and the community center.

The festival will have an expanded pet-friendly exhibit area, live music, food, pet adoption, silent auction, more than 40 vendors, children’s activities, canine fashion show and dog training clinic.

Pet owners can sign up for Project Dogway for coiffed canines modeling custom creations. Awards will be offered for top designers in such categories as evening, sport, everyday casual, resort and couture wear.

Owners can also sign up for Hollywood Pet Tricks and let film industry professionals judge their pet’s talents.

The event previously took place at Pierce College.

New Leash On Life, founded in 1997, has been responsible for the spaying and neutering of thousands of pets and rescuing and placement of more than 3,000 dogs. For more information, go to www.newleash.org.

Funds raised at the walk will help support a variety of Rotary programs including the annual Thanksgiving dinner which feeds more than 600 seniors, West Valley Food Pantry, Neighbors In Need and the water purification project and Casa de Paz Orphanage in Baja.
