Students give to Pennies for Peace
      The students at Chaparral Elementary School recently completed a Pennies for Peace campaign to broaden their cultural horizons and become members of a global family dedicated to peace along with thousands of other school children around the world who are helping to empower communities through education in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Honor roll
      •Jason Salter, a resident of Agoura Hills and a member of the AHS class of 2011, was named to the dean’s list at Providence College in Rhode Island for the fall 2009 semester. To qualify, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.

Scholarships available for public works-related majors
      The Ventura County Chapter of the American Public Works Association has announced the availability of scholarships for high school students entering college or university in an engineering/public works-related major. Scholarship amounts are $500 to $2,000.

Electronic waste collection on Saturday
      The environmental club at Willow Elementary School, Kids FACE (Kids For A Clean Environment) will have an electronic waste collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 6 in the school parking lot, 29026 Laro Drive, Agoura Hills. The club will receive a donation based on the total weight collected.

Elks offer financial support to students with disabilities
      The California-Hawaii Elks Major Project Inc. board of trustees will offer scholarships for the academic year 2010-11 to students with disabilities. The program will offer 20 to 30 scholarships of $1,000 to $2,000 each. Scholarship recipients can receive up to four years of assistance.

Benefit planned
      Calabasas High School Music Boosters will host the fourth annual Calabasas at The Canyon club, a dinner, dance and silent auction fundraiser, from 5 to 10 p.m. Sun., Feb. 21 in Agoura Hills. The event will benefit the school’s music program.
