Paule new Triunfo chair

Mike Paule was elected chair of the Triunfo Sanitation District board of directors during its Jan. 25 meeting.

Paule replaces Janna Orkney, who will now be vice chair. Paule was vice chair last year.

Paule expressed appreciation to Orkney for her service and for striving to publicize the agency’s work. Orkney commended Paule.

“It’s a great honor to pass this on to Mike,” Orkney said. “It’s just his first year on the board, and he got up to speed immediately.”

The chair and vice chair roles alternate between the two elected positions. The other three positions are appointed, although that will soon change.

Last fall after a lengthy debate, the board voted to change its makeup to an all-elected body. Four of the five seats will be up for election in November, including the one held by Orkney and the previously appointed seats now held by Parks, Glancy and Dennis Gillette. Orkney has indicated that she will seek reelection.

The three board members who receive the most votes will serve four-year terms. The lowest vote getter will serve for two years, coinciding with the end of Paule’s term. The board approved the plan in order to stagger the terms
