Church to present lectures on God and the mind

The Church of the Epiphany will present a two-part lecture series, “How God Changes Your Brain: The Neuroscience of Spiritual Experience,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wed., Dec. 2 and 9 at the church, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.

The lectures are based on the book “How God Changes Your Brain.” Leading the series is co-author Mark Waldman, a therapist based in Camarillo and associate fellow at the Center for Spirituality and the Mind, University of Pennsylvania.

Waldman will discuss research conducted with co-author Dr. Andrew Newberg that demonstrates how prayer, meditation and the contemplation of spiritual values alter functions in the brain.

Using videos and slides, Waldman will reveal how images of God are processed by different parts of the brain and by children, teens and adults.

Admission is free. For more information, call the Rev. Melissa McCarthy at (818) 991-4797, email mmccarthy@tcote.org or visit www.tcote.org or www .markrobertwaldman.com.
