      Regarding your editorial on the Marmonte re-leaguing situation, I commend your effort at presenting both sides of a highly charged emotional issue by sticking to the facts and figures to make your point.

Calabasas out of its league
      The Acorn has once again proven to be an insightful and responsible news organization. This week’s editorial and the article by Eliav Appelbaum have hit on the real salient points of the Calabasas/Marmonte debate. It is refreshing to see an unbiased view of this situation for what it truly is and not through the distorted prism of deluded parents and athletic hierarchy.

Losing isn’t fun
      For the past five years, the Calabasas High School athletics program has gotten the chance to prove itself among the Marmonte league and has failed. Thus, I am shocked and outraged that Calabasas High School is unwilling to travel longer distances for games, yet is allowing our athletes to continue a standard of subpar competition.

      Judging by the article written in the Oct. 29 Acorn , I can see why students would be apprehensive about attending Indian Hills High School, especially after the “Hollywood celebrity burglaries.”

Rates are justified
      Like many, I opened my last water bill from Oak Park Water to find a very nasty surprise due to the recent significant rate increase. I was very unhappy. But I realize it is inaccurate to blame the present board members, including Janna Orkney, the target of a recent letter to this publication.

Learning science
      The story on the coming of a new science environmental education institute is important. I would like to add that the organization, NatureBridge, is the successor name to “The Yosemite National Institutes,” which has, over the last 35 years, taught field science to over 1 million students.

Tree given the ax
      A beautiful tree was destroyed by the city of Calabasas. The surprise attack was swift, brutal and arbitrary. The tree didn’t stand a chance since its owners were at work and the responsible official left for vacation immediately after giving the fatal order.
