Stein wins school board seat

Lesli Stein Lesli Stein Newcomer Lesli Stein of Agoura Hills received the most votes in the Nov. 3 election and will fill one of three seats for the Las Virgenes Unified School District Board of Education.

Stein captured 2,425 votes. Incumbents Gordon Whitehead received 2,008 votes and board president Dave Moorman tallied 1,936 votes in the two-county election.

“I am excited and energized to continue my work on behalf of the students, parents, faculty and staff of our fine district,” Stein said.

“We have challenges ahead and I know I’m up to the task,” she said.

Diane Combes of Bell Canyon finished fourth with 994 votes. (Bell Canyon, which is located in Ventura County, is part of the Las Virgenes district.)

Incumbent Cindy Iser ran unopposed for the remaining two years of a term left vacant by former school board member Terilyn Finders, who resigned. Pat Schulz, a former school board member, temporarily filled Finders’ spot for the past year. Iser will serve for two years; Stein, Whitehead and Moorman will serve four years.

Voter turnout was estimated at approximately 8 percent of the registered voters. The school board election was the only item on the local ballot.

Voter turnout for Los Angeles County was 12 percent and in Ventura County, where a number of measures were put to the vote, the turnout was 22 percent.
