Anger over water rates represents misplaced frustration
I fully expected to see a letter such as that from Mr. Craig Kronfeld in response to the Triunfo Sanitation District’s implementation of higher water rates for the Oak Park Water Service customers. My bill was also astronomically higher, despite concerted efforts to reduce my usage. I understand Mr. Kronfeld’s frustration, but his anger is misdirected.
Janna Orkney, along with Supervisor Linda Parks and recently elected Mike Paule, have worked tirelessly to keep the public informed as to what’s happening with our water. Let’s not shoot the messenger here.
TSD doesn’t pump water out of the ground. TSD’s supplier, Metropolitan Water District, raised its rates. TSD had no choice but to pass the increase on.
If we don’t reduce our usage as mandated, TSD will be fined by MWD, and that, too, will have to be passed on to customers. Janna’s efforts have been Paul Revere-like—warning the public of what could happen, and educating them on how to prevent it.
Thanks to Janna, Supervisor Parks and Mike, the TSD board will soon be all elected. The days rubber-stamping and bobblehead nodding are over. Local water issues are under unprecedented scrutiny, and I am glad we finally have the representation that will be working on our, the consumers, behalf.
