In addition to leading the Angels, Westlake resident Mike Scioscia maintains a passion for youth ball
      Mike Scioscia walks toward the front door at Starbucks in Oak Park dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and jeans, his hair slicked back and his head held high. On the previous night, the professional baseball team Scioscia manages, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, won the American League West pennant for the fifth time in six years.

Scioscia’s golf tourney to benefit baseball in SoCal
      The sixth annual Mike Scioscia Charity Golf Tournament will take place Mon., Nov. 9 at Moorpark Country Club. All proceeds benefit Amateur Baseball Development Group, a nonprofit foundation supporting amateur baseball throughout Southern California.

The Acorn’s High School Football Game of the Week
Agoura Chargers (1-3) at Westlake Warriors (4-0) Friday, 7 p.m.
      Two longtime rivals look like they’re heading in different directions. On Friday night, the Agoura and Westlake high football teams will meet at the crossroads of another Marmonte League clash. The Chargers will try to end their three-game losing streak when they play the fourth of five consecutive road games.

      SOCCER STARS— The Real SoCal girls’ U-12 soccer squad took first place in its division at the Simi Valley Eclipse Labor Day Invitational Tournament. Real SoCal is based in North Ranch. Basketball squad in hoops heaven
      SKILL PLAYERS— The Ventura County Elite CYBA Magic sixth-grade girls’ basketball team finished in first place at the Swoosh Tournament held in Oxnard. The team defeated the Oxnard Jagz and Ventura Fusion to take the tile. Lindsay Emi and Milana Kazmer are in the front row.

Standout local student-athletes making college commitments
      Life-changing choices are being made throughout the Conejo Valley by high school athletes. At Westlake High, standout baseball infielder Christian Yelich made a verbal commitment to the University of Miami following a recent visit to the campus. Tim Wise, an outfielder/first baseman at WHS, has decided to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
