Public TV documentary spotlights the mountains
      KCET will broadcast two and one-half hours of the documentary “Trailmasters” showcasing the rich recreational resources in the 47 miles of beaches and more than 500 miles of mountain trails available in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The show will air at 3 p.m. Sun., Oct. 11.

Thefts increase at CHS
      A rash of locker thefts at Calabasas High School has administrators advising students to leave expensive items at home and report their thefts to the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. The Las Virgenes Unified School District is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the culprit, said Dan Stepenosky, district assistant superintendent of personnel.

      The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is sponsoring the annual Spirit of the Mountains photo contest. Submissions will be accepted through Oct. 31. Categories include plants, animals, scenic shots, young photographers, people in parklands and Memories of the Mountains, a special category in celebration of the park’s 30th anniversary.

Time for the Pumpkin Festival
      The annual Calabasas Pumpkin Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Oct. 17 and 18 at Juan Bautista De Anza Park, 3701 Lost Hills Road, Calabasas.
