Close call for pooch in coyote attack
RECUPERATING—Napoleon, a 2-1/2 year old dachshund, recovers from an attack by a coyote in his backyard on Park Alisal in Calabasas Park. The coyote leaped over a fence and tried to haul Napoleon away, but failed. According to owner Jane Chaudron, the coyote returned the next day and attempted to snatch the dog’s mother. Napoleon is a therapy dog with Lend a Paw.
BARRIER—Napoleon’s attacker used adjacent brush and jumped this fence. High chain link fencing is the best defense against coyotes, although any pet left outdoors remains at risk.
