There is religion, but we mess it up It seems that every religion claims its own god: Judaism, Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, Wiccan. Or no god at all in the case of the atheists. Or maybe a god in the case of agnostics. It is my firm conviction that in this universe we live in—if there is a god or creator—there is only one god or there is no god at all. I believe that this god must love his creation and that it is this love that sustains this universe that he created, either in the "big bang" or in the biblical "seven days." With god's creatures come certain laws that govern the universe, tentatively and particularly: gravitational, mechanical, chemical, atomic, natural, instinct, rational laws for the humans, and for the social humans: "Don't do to your neighbor what you don't like to do on to yourself." All the creatures can commnicate with god and praise him directly by following their own godgiven laws, and the humans in particular by following their own conscience. I don't think that, absolutely speaking, we need a pope, an ayatollah, a rabbi or a preacher to communicate with or praise god. The history of these intermediaries—as set forth by organized religion from the beginning of human society to the present day theocracies with their mix of good and evil—is a very sad and horrific story. The evil side, with its prejudices, superstition and ignorance mixed with an incredible irrational dogmatic power, has caused humanity an incredible amount of pain and suffering. It is not clear if the good side has compensated for the evil side. In this 30-second exposition I don't think that I can completely express my beliefs, and I am not sure to be absolutely right. Nobody should take offense of my thoughts and beliefs and be free to contest every word that I have written. Francesco Bauducco Agoura Hills |
