OPHS puts principal search on hold
Superintendent says there's a 'major shortage of candidates'
      Oak Park Unified School District has discontinued its search for a new principal for Oak Park High School. Former principal Lynn McCormack will serve as interim principal for the 2009-10 school year. The search for a permanent administrator will resume in January, said Superintendent Tony Knight.

      According to security personnel at The Oaks mall, an unknown male voice was coming over their official radios, using profanity and threatening to jam their frequencies.

Fireworks coming to Janss shops
      The annual July 4 Janss Marketplace Fireworks Spectacular will be from 4 to 10 p.m. this Saturday at the shopping center, off the 101 Freeway at Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. Admission is free. The event will have free music, games, fireworks viewing, giveaways, balloon twister, face painting, and Bounce House.

U.S. Air Force Band to play at Gardens of the World
      The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Fri., July 3 at Gardens of the World, 2001 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The concert will take place at the gardens' American Bandstand. Guests may bring lawn seating and picnics. Smoking, glass containers and pets are not allowed.

     SIZZLE—Ibrahim Ramadan learns how to brand at a recent Living History Day at Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas. Visitors learned the basics of roping and making tortillas and adobe bricks. They also helped out with feeding the ranch animals.

Viewpoint students win at art, writing
      Star Sage and Jordan Sitzer, students at Viewpoint School in Calabasas, were winners of the 2009 National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards from the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The students and their families traveled to Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 4 to receive their awards.

      The 32 annual Calabasas Fourth of July Lakeside Fun Run will take place along Calabasas Lake at 23400 Park Sorrento with 2- and 4-mile runs, a 2-mile walk, and half- and quarter-mile races for youth.

Medea Creek administrator named Camarillo school principal
      Jay Greenlinger is leaving Medea Creek Middle School in Oak Park to become principal of La Mariposa Elementary School in Camarillo. Greenlinger has served as Medea's dean of students since August 2007. Greenlinger joined Oak Park Unified School District in 2003, teaching first third and then fifth grade at Brookside Elementary School.

Habitat has earned the rating for its ability to efficiently man age and grow its finances. Approximately 25 percent of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator receive this, the highest rating.
