Fire expo helps families plan for dry summer
      The Los Angeles County Fire Department's free Fire Expo, "Living in the Fire Zone," will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., June 20 at Fire Station 89 in Agoura Hills. The announcement of the safety expo came about one month after the Jesusita fire in Santa Barbara burned 78 homes, scorched more than 8,700 acres and injured seven firefighters.

Birthday boy gives to school
     GIFT OF GIVING—Red Oak first-grader Ethan Klopert shows librarian, Mrs. Fritzen and principal, Mr. Duim, the 2n3ew books he is giving to the school library. In lieu of gifts this year, Ethan asked his birthday guests to donate books to share with their schoolmates.

Salsa festival will be hot
      All types of home-made salsa are eligible for entry in the Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge 2009 at the 16th annual Oxnard Salsa Festival on Sun., July 26. Amateur salsa makers may compete in six categories: Best Red, Best Green, Best Fruit, Best Hot, Best Medium and Best Mild.

Westlake plans Fourth of July parade
      Residents of all ages may participate in the 40th annual Westlake Village Fourth of July Parade beginning at the former Westlake Village Medical Center property, 4415 Lakeview Canyon Road. The Rotary Club of Westlake Village will serve a pancake breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. The parade will start at 9:45 a.m.
