Emergency training open to teens
Program begins June 22 at OPHS
      Teens have the opportunity to participate in emergency response training at Oak Park High School from 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Mon.-Fri., June 22-July 10. A registration donation of $135 is requested and includes books, notes and a disaster preparedness "Go-Pak.

      Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will visit the Reagan Library at 6 p.m. Mon., June 29. Huckabee is the host of "Huckabee" on the Fox News Channel and appears on the "Huckabee Report" on the ABC Radio Network. He is the author of six books.

LV schools test scores rank high, but slip in comparison to similar schools
      The Las Virgenes Unified School District once again ranked as one of the highest achieving districts in California, but half of the district's 14 schools came in below average when measured against similar schools, according to a report released by the California Department of Education last week.

      The board of directors of the California Housing Consortium (CHC) has announced the appointment of Ray Pearl as its new executive director. Pearl has assumed the role of the lead staff person for the association and will oversee all organizational operations.

Girl unites community with greenhouse project
      NP A greenhouse has been built on the campus of Medea Creek Middle School in Oak Park to promote students' environmental awareness. Although it was built with the support of many people it originated with one, student Monica Geske.

Calabasas baseball team turns lemons into lemonade
      After several members of the Calabasas High School baseball team were suspended in March for hazing new team members, coach Ed Edsall decided to use the incident to teach the boys a lesson in compassion. Edsall arranged for the team to play a game of baseball with the Challenge Team in Simi Valley.

Last weekend to see Magna Carta
      The Magna Carta, which has been on display at the Reagan Library since January, will return to Lincolnshire, England, on Mon. June 22. The public can view the document from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day through June 21 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

Libraries close for holiday
      The Ventura County Library community branches will be closed Fri. and Sat., July 3 and 4, for the Independence Day holiday. The closures affect Camarillo Library, Oak Park Library and Simi Valley Library. Books may be returned to the book drops at any of the community libraries.
