East All-Stars rumble through West squad
Agoura's Arias named MVP
      Next month, Grace Brethren senior wide receiver Travis Sproat is scheduled to enter boot camp at Camp Pendleton as a member of the United States Marine Corps. The diminutive playmaker, listed at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, has already requested a rapid deploy and expects to be stationed overseas later this year.

      For the first time in school history, Westlake High qualified for the CIF State Boys Golf Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The state tournament was held Wednesday morning at the famous Pebble Beach links.

Graf good enough for third-place finish at state
      Multiple area athletes shone on the biggest stage in high school track and field last weekend. No one was better than Rio Mesa High's Valexsia Droughn, who won the girls' 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds at the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High at Clovis.

Stock, Stoffel drafted early
      Robert Stock, who starred at Agoura High before attending the University of Southern California, was selected in the second round, pick No. 67, of the Major League Baseball FirstYear Player Draft on Tuesday. The Trojans junior pitcher/ catcher was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Marmonte League honors spring season's outstanding athletes
      The Marmonte League announced its All-League teams for spring sports. Drew Sandler of the Simi Valley High baseball team was named Player of the Year. Cody Buckel of Royal and Landon Hunt of Moorpark were named Co-Pitchers of the Year, while Simi Valley skipper Matt La Belle earned Coach of the Year honors.

Standout SCLA players recognized
      The Southern California Lacrosse Association has named its 2009 all-league teams. Mark Wood of Newbury Park is the league's Player of the Year. Thousand Oaks' Josh Bounds was honored as Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Westlake seniors pick prom over volleyball
      It was a strange end to a successful season for the Westlake High boys' volleyball team. The Warriors faced Loyola last Saturday night in the final of the Division I CIF Southern California Regional Volleyball Championships without their seniors, who were attending the school's prom on the same evening.
