Westlake won't be denied in championship match
Warriors go the distance to beat Royal
      It was an electric atmosphere for a classic CIFSouthern Section boys' volleyball title match between a pair of Marmonte League co-champions. With the Thousand Oaks High gymnasium crammed to capacity last Saturday night, the decibel level rising with each passing point, Westlake and Royal staged an alltime battle for CIFSS Division II supremacy.

Track and field talent off to state
      Several area standouts advanced to the CIF State Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Buchanan High at Clovis. The following studentathletes will compete in the final state meet this weekend: • Melissa Skiba, Oak Park, girls' 3,200 (Saturday finals).

      The Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft begins Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. MLB Network will broadcast the Day 1 action from its studios at Secaucus, N.J. As usual, there are several area players expected to be selected in the early rounds of the three-day draft.

      The Ventura County EastWest All-Star Football Game takes place Saturday at 6 p.m. at Moorpark High. Top seniors from around the county will compete in the event, sponsored by the Ventura Downtown Lions Club.

AHS dishes out baseball awards
      Sam Yarin and Kenny McCroskery were voted coMVP's of the Agoura High base ball team during the program's awards dinner at AHS on May 19. Yarin batted .352 with six doubles while playing all 24 games at third base.

OCHS football ranked in top 10
      The Oaks Christian football team was ranked No. 9 nationally in a recently released preseason poll by the website www.MaxPreps.com. OCHS is expected to be led by quarterback Nick Montana, running back Malcolm Jones and lineman Cassius Marsh.
