Westlake Rotary hosts Day of Giving
     HELPING HANDS— Pat McDade, left, and Edwin Velarde from the Rotary Club of Westlake Village thank Dave Warner of Warner Pacific Insurance for his donation of $10,000. The club recently hosted a Community Street Festival and 5K/10K Charity Run, and during a "Day of Giving" at North Ranch Country Club, the proceeds from the event were donated to 17 local charities and nonprofit organizations.

Water saving fixtures installed
      As part of its ongoing water conservation program, the Triunfo Sanitation District recently helped the Oak Park Unified School District to replace more than 50 school restroom urinals with stateof-the art water-free fixtures.

      Every Good Boy Does Fine. The mnemonic trick that helps piano players learn how to read notes may be as old as the keyboard itself, but there are other ways to master musical melodies. A method known as Simply Music allows students to play the piano without learning to read music first.

Oak Park walk-athon will benefit groups
      The second AOK—Acts Of Kindness—Day at Oak Park High School will be marked by a walk-athon to benefit several local agencies. Sponsored by the school's Beginning Peer Counseling program, the community is invited to the event, scheduled from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the track. School ends early on Monday due to state testing.

      "A Commitment to Growth" is the theme of the Stillpoint Family Resources ninth annual fundraising gala, scheduled for Sun., May 17 at the Globe Theatre in Hollywood. The Woodland Hills-based charity was founded in 1998 to provide counseling and educational services to individuals and families in crisis.

Make-A-Wish Foundation needs donors
      Like other charities hit by the recession, MakeAWish Foundation of the Tri-Counties needs more donations. While cash donations would be nice, the nonprofit would rather have items such as toys, iPods and electronic games. Its toy shelves need replenishing.
