Youths groove for God at UNIFY event
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers ROCK ON—Los Angeles band Underneath Atlantis performs May 2 at the Gateway Church UNIFY event in Agoura Hills. The event, for middle and high school students, was led by the church but was open to the community as a day for youths to connect with each other and God. More than 250 young persons attended the event, which included a battle of the bands, a rock wall, snow, inflatables, a skate park and swimming.

      The film "Facing Extinction: Christians of Iraq" will screen at 7 p.m. Fri., May 15 at Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village. The movie is about the persecution of the 1 million Christians in Iraq. The event is free of charge.

Heschel West celebrates Independence Day
     KEEPING COOL— Third-grader Gabrielle Abramov gives herself a refreshing splash at Heschel West Day School's annual jogathon in celebration of Israeli Independence Day on April 29. The fundraiser has collected more than $100,000 for Israeli charities. This year's beneficiaries are the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled and the Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross.
