Stages to present audition workshop for kids

Stages Performing Arts Inc., a nonprofit children's theater camp, will present an audition workshop from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sat., May 2 at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

The workshop is for children ages 7 through 15

Students already signed up for Stages' summer camp of June 22 through July 25 in Agoura Hills that will be performing "Seussical" can attend the workshop for free to help them hone their auditioning skills.

Children not already enrolled in the summer camp can apply the $20 fee toward camp registration.

The workshop is designed to give children who feel anxious at auditions more confidence for the next time they try out.

The workshop features audition tips from fellow performers and professionals including Ginny Grady, singer, dancer, actress and director for more than 35 years; an hour of group vocal instruction and pointers from vocal coach and teacher Dawn Walters, and the chance to learn and practice cold readings.

Workshop participants also learn a simple dance routine along with tips for dance auditions.

The cost is $20. Pre-register is encouraged as space is limited.
