Too much political correctness I completely agree with the Acorn's editorial about political correctness gone awry with the renaming of Easter eggs as "spring eggs." Doesn't freedom of religion entitle those who believe in a particular religion to celebrate it with the customs and terminology that are a part of that religion and not have it renamed by those who don't share the same faith and may for some reason be offended by the name of that particular religious holiday? It's funny because I haven't heard of any Christians feeling the need to rename and neutralize the meaning of important Jewish, Muslim, Pagan or Hindu holidays and celebrations. Religious freedom means that individuals of all beliefs can celebrate their faith and tradition in a way that is important to them with the tolerance of those who may not share their beliefs. Since this egg hunt was in fact scheduled on the same weekend as Easter, it would be hard to say that it isn't an Easter celebration. And for those who cry that public property cannot be used for religious events, I would argue that this great freedom also affords individuals the opportunity to apply for and gain permission from the appropriate governing body to use public property for such celebrations. Let those who want to have a "spring egg" religion get together and create their own belief system, holidays and traditions around it and I for one won't be offended when I see a "Spring Egg Hunt" on the calendar.
