Oak Park worries about cancer cases
      A group of Oak Park residents is speaking out about what they feel is a spike in the number of cancer cases recently diagnosed in their community, but cancer clusters are difficult to prove, experts say, and fears that the disease might be linked to the former rocket engine and nuclear testing site at the nearby Santa Susana Field Lab remain unproven.

Former Agoura man stole from employees
      Michael Joseph Pearns, 58, a former Agoura Hills resident, was sentenced to three years in state prison for stealing more than $97,000 from his employees and business partners. According to police reports, from 1995 to 2000, Pearns and two partners ran MJP Financial, also called Mountain View Financial, a real estate loan firm in Westlake Village.

Oak Park shapes finances
      Last year at this time the financial situation for the Oak Park Unified School District looked dire. Responding to a state education funding reduction, OPUSD made $1.5 million in budget cuts, and although the same amount must be cut this year, Superintendent of Schools Tony Knight says he is optimistic for several reasons.

Oak Park High hosting barbershop contest
     IN HARMONY—Peace, Love and Music barbershop quartet members Megan Cofiell, Gretchen Waldron, Maggie Willson and Sara Cofiell take a break during practice for the upcoming "Barbershop Mania" at Oak Park High School. The performance will be Thurs., April 30 at the school. All OPHS choir students have formed their own barbershop quartets. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
