City's golf tourney helps fight cancer There is still room available on the city of Agoura Hills golf team that will play in an upcoming tournament to benefit the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser. The competition is at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley on Mon., April 20. Relay for Life is an annual 24hour walkathon that honors cancer survivors, pays tribute to those who have lost their battle to the disease, and raises money for research, education and a cure. The April 2526 event will be held at Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills. The Agoura Hills Relay team was the top fundraiser last year, and Fisher hopes to lead the effort again this year. The golf tournament will give a boost to the city's donation drive. "The course will offer an enjoyable day of golf with its scenic views and challenging holes; but more importantly, you will be helping the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancerfree future," said Kelly Fisher, cochair of the city's Relay team and golf tournament along with Chris Dodd. Fisher said the private club offers a challenge for golfers. Two senior PGA tour events, three U.S. Senior Open qualifying tournaments and one LPGA Tour event have been hosted at the club. The format of the tournament includes a four-man scramble with opportunities to win prizes along the way. Fisher said a new car and vacation trips will be awarded to players who shoot closest to the pin, hit the longest drive and win other games. Lunch, dinner, green fees, carts, driving range, putting contest and gift bags will be provided in the registration fee. "We realize the economic times are tough so the entry fee has been lowered to $150 per golfer," Fisher said. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and tee off is set for noon. The dinner is priced at $50 per person and starts at 5:30 p.m. For more information contact Kelly Fisher at (818) 597-7338 or Chris Dodd at (818) 597-7317. —Stephanie Bertholdo |
