Youth Congress XXV goes green
      Students participating in the annual Youth Congress presented by the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation are going green. The April 4 summit will focus on challenges the region faces in contributing to a more ecologically friendly world, said Karen Malatesta, executive director of the foundation.

Calabasas High School students learn the seven habits of success
      Linda Pierce, assistant principal at Calabasas High School, took a stand against teen apathy last year and launched a club that has changed the lives of many students. Pierce based the club on the book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey.

Oak Park unveils new kindergarten program for younger children
      Each year, teachers screen the incoming Oak Park kindergartners to see if they're ready for school, but some of the children who are old enough for class may not be developmentally ready. Instead of turning those students away, Oak Park Unified School District is starting a program to help those children learn at their own pace.

      The Conejo Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized two local students for their outstanding scholastic achievements in essay composition for the annual DAR Good Citizens and American History Essay Contests.

Oaks Christian grad excels
     HIGH ACHIEVEMENT— Bobby Nordlund of Westlake Village was named to the superintendent's list at the United States Naval Academy for the fall 2008 semester. A minimum semester grade point average of 3.4, an A in conduct and military performance and an A or B in physical education are required to attain super-intendent's list status. Nordlund attended Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village.

Calling all Yerba Buena alumni
      Yerba Buena Elementary School in Agoura Hills is preparing for its 40th anniversary. A Facebook page has been set up for alumni to share messages and photos and keep informed of the week-long celebration, which will culminate in a family festival and movie night on May 30.

Students win at science fair
      Students from local schools were winners at the 55th Ventura County Science Fair on March 24 to 26 at Seaside Park in Ventura. More than 700 students competed in the fair. All first and secondplace finishers in each division category qualify to compete in the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles on May 18 to 19.
