Being smart about school finances
      Finally, there's a move in Sacramento to fix the state's broken education system, not by throwing more money at the problem, but by changing it. Assemblymember Julia Brownley, whose district includes Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and Oak Park, introduced a pair of bills yesterday to the California Assembly Education Committee, which she chairs.

Online poll examine possible marijuana tax
      As state and federal governments struggle with a sagging economy and declining revenues, a call for the legalization and taxing of marijuana has picked up steam. The U.S. Attorney General, in a related move, recently announced that sellers of medical marijuana would no longer be prosecuted.
