City Calendar

The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services presents the following programs. For more information, call the Agoura Hills Recreation Center at (818) 597-7361, or come by the recreation center at 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Activities are at the recreation center unless otherwise noted.

•Mountain high ski/snowboard trip for youths ages 10 to 17 to Mountain High Ski Resort will be Sat., March 21. The recreation center will provide supervision and transportation.

The bus will depart from the recreation center at 6 a.m. and arrive back at 7 p.m.

The cost is $65 for ages 11 to 12 and $80 for ages 13 to 17. Skiing and snowboarding lessons will be available for an extra $35.

•The Department of Community Services, the Las Virgenes Unified School District and the city of Westlake Village announce the spring performance of the Community Concert and Jazz Band at 4 p.m. Sat., May 9 at the Westlake Village Civic Center, 31200 Oak Crest Drive.

Rehearsals will begin 7 p.m. Tues., March 24 at the Agoura High School band room.

•Applications are being accepted for "Agourapalooza: Teen Battle of the Bands!" sponsored by Agoura Music.

Teen bands are needed to perform at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center on Fri., April 3. Demos are necessary and bands must apply in person.

The deadline to submit applications and demos is 4 p.m. Fri., March 20.

The event will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Each band will receive 45 minutes for set up, breakdown and play time. Stage and sound will be provided and bands will need to provide remaining equipment.

•Babysitter's Training for Young Teens teaches youths ages 11 to 15 basic babysitting skills and techniques.

This American Red Cross program covers the business of babysitting, professional behavior, problem solving, telephone safety tips, age appropriate game/toy selection, household safety, diapering and feeding, basic first aid and CPR skills for child and infant.

Each student will receive a babysitting workbook, packet, handouts and certificate.

This workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sat., April 25 at the Agoura Hills City Hall Community Room, 30001 Ladyface Court.

The cost is $40 and a nonrefundable $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the day of class.

•Rec 'N' Roll is a mobile recreation unit that will stop by neighborhood parks on weekends. Recreation leaders will come equipped with sports equipment, arts and crafts projects, and organized group games.

The unit will be in Morrison Park on April 5, Forest Cove Park on April 12 and Reyes Adobe Park on April 19. The program is free of charge and anyone is welcome. Call for times.

•Three camp programs for ages 3 to 15 will take place during spring break, April 10 and April 13 to 17.

Springtime Fun Camp for ages 3 to 5 will be at the recreation center each day from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $20 each day. Campers will cook, play games, and create art projects related to the daily theme.

Spring Caravans for ages 5 to 10 is $40 per day. Trips are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will meet at Reyes Adobe Park. Participants will visit Chuck E. Cheese, movie theaters, Paint Pals, GolfN-Stuff, Kookie Crazy, the Los Angeles Zoo, and more.

Adventure Club for ages 10 to 15 will include trips to Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, shopping malls, Lazertag, GolfN-Stuff, and more.

Teen trips are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and cost $40 per day.

On Fri., April 10 the trip is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for $45. On Fri., April 17 the trip is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $45. All trips meet at Reyes Adobe Park.
