Chambers will 'Celebrate Business'

United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley and Region will host its 33rd annual "Celebrating Business" recognition dinner on Thurs., March 19 at Hilton Woodland Hills, 6360 Canoga Ave., Woodland Hills.

Reception will start at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:45 p.m.

The event will honor business and individuals and public officials for their exceptional commitment and service to the area.

The board of directors of 2008 and 2009 will also be recognized.

Picture perfect

Adam George of Embrace Life Photography in Calabasas, received five awards at the Wedding Portrait and Photographers International 2009 competition Feb. 14 in Las Vegas.

His photos received four Accolodates of Excellence in the Individual catergory and one accolade in the Premier category.

George, who grew up in Agoura Hills and lives in Moopark, competed against an international field of photographers. There were more than 2,700 prints in 19 categories.

The competition reportedly was the biggest convention and trade show in the history of professional photography.

Verizon awards technology grant

Verizon has awarded a $50,000 grant to Ventura County Community Foundation to support the foundation's new technology strategies, including an online community platform.

The grant will be used to increase the capacity and quality of available technological resources for hundreds of donors, foundations and nonprofits throughout Ventura County, as well as to upgrade the foundation's website, www.vccf.org.

The technology platform will be interactive and guide users to web-based networks that link causes, donors and research.

It also will include:

•Information on foundation funds and program initiatives, including the annual scholarship program for local students

•Ways for donors to learn about and give to foundation programs and community needs online

•Communication tools to share the impact of philanthropic work throughout Ventura County

•Ways to link donors, patrons and nonprofits to the work the foundation is doing for the benefit of Latinos, nurses, the arts and other projects

•Help for nonprofits to enhance technological literacy, raise capital and train their future leaders.

The Ventura County Community Foundation is a family of 500 charitable funds with total assets of $96 million. It distributed $6.1 million in grants and pledges in 2008.
