Remembering old times
      I miss the sound my 5yearold son and I used to make when driving toy cars. It involved sticking out our tongues and, for the most part, spitting. The other day, my boy came to me with two cars in his hands, one for him and one for me. He asked if we could race around the living room like old times. I told him we couldn't. He was sad. I was sad, too.

Cub Scouts discuss what is America
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers RED, GOLD AND BLUE—Wolves of Cub Scout Pack 227, Den 6, give an informative presentation about the original 13 colonies at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet. Five dens gathered to have dinner, celebrate scouting and receive merit awards. The theme of the evening was "Across America." Each den gave a small presentation about the United States.

'Willy Wonka Junior' coming to Thousand Oaks
      Conejo Players Theatre presents "Willy Wonka Junior" from March 21 through 29 at the theater, 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. Show times are Fri., March 27 at 7 p.m. and 1 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, as well as two daytime performances for schools March 25.

Gem, mineral show slated
      The 47th annual Gem, Mineral, Lapidary and Fossil Show of the Ventura Gem and Mineral Society will take place March 7 and 8 at Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Westlake artist designs festival logo
      Artist and illustrator Harlan West of Westlake Village was awarded $1,500 recently for creating the winning design that was chosen as the official poster of the 26th annual California Strawberry Festival, scheduled for May 16 and 17 in Oxnard.

Agoura Bandits steal third place
     TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME—The Agoura Bandits 6 and Under team won third place in Simi Valley's Presidents Weekend Kick Off tournament. It was the first tournament the team had played together. Devin Sirkus is the head coach.
