Sheriff's deputy found dead

Ventura County Sheriff 's Dep. Michael Murray was found dead on the morning of Sat., Feb. 28 inside his Agoura Hills home by deputies who were checking into his well-being after he failed to report to work.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff 's Department and Coroner's Office are investigating the death. The sheriff's department said in statement that Murray's death was unexpected, but that there was no obvious cause of death or evidence of foul play.

He was 30.

Murray joined the sheriff's department in July 2002. Upon graduation from the Regional Training Center, he worked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura and later at the East County Jail in Thousand Oaks.

Murray began his field training in patrol at the T.O. station in November 2008 and was working on that assignment at the time of his death.

Funeral services haven't been determined.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department and Thousand Oaks Police Department say they are "deeply saddened" by the deputy's death.
