The blame game

Sharili Brown admits to partisan politics and appears to have no qualms with it being used to pin blame for this economic crisis.

It is patently false to state that there was no lowering of standards. When one does not have to provide a credit history or verify employment to secure a loan that is a lowering of standards, and equating the lowering of standards by the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) with minority hiring quotas as Ms. Brown does, is a non sequitur. Hopefully, she is not implying that minority quotas are synonymous with the lowering of standards.

The Bush administration attempted in vain as early as 2003 to bring their concerns to the floor of the House. They were quickly dismissed by Christopher Dodd, Barney Frank, and Maxine Waters. While Republicans should have fought harder for regulation, that does not absolve Democratic responsibility for enacting the CRA which started the domino chain that led to this economic meltdown.
