Girls' basketball teams driven to succeed in postseason
Calabasas will make long-awaited playoff appearance
      Qualifying for the CIF-Southern Section postseason is nothing new for the girls' basketball programs at Newbury Park High and Oaks Christian. Both schools won their respective league titles this season, Newbury Park in the Marmonte and OCHS in the Tri-Valley, and each program has a significant track record of success on the hardwood.

Coyotes claim Winter State Championship
     SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S FINEST—In a baseball tournament that spanned two weekends, teams from across Southern California gathered for the shot at taking home the U-13 Winter State Championship. The Coyotes, a local team with boys from Westlake, Thousand Oaks and Agoura, fought their way to the title with a 15-0 rout of Lake Forrest in the finale.       All they're asking for is a little respect. Last season, three of the four teams represented in the CIFSouthern Section Division II girls' soccer semifinals—Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and Agoura—were Marmonte League schools.

OCHS grad Balikian named All-American
      The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced its 2008 Men's AllAmerica Teams for Division III, and a few local athletes were honored. Making the first team was Ben Hadley (Moorpark High) and Ryan Balikian (Oaks Christian) from Pomona College. Also being named to the first team was Matt Heagy of Cal Lutheran.

Boys' hoops squads open postseason
      High school boys' basketball playoff action in the CIFSouthern Section tipped off Wednesday night. Second-round games take place Friday, with the majority of the contests slated for 7:30 p.m. starts. Marmonte League champion Thousand Oaks was awarded the top seed in Division IIAA.

      At the beginning of the season, Agoura High girls' water polo coach Jason Rosenthal set three goals for his squad: come together as a team, claim the Marmonte League title and win a CIF-Southern Section Division II championship.

Viewpoint duo honored by CIF
      Viewpoint seniors Brooke Berka of Woodland Hills and Samantha Tellez of Calabasas were named to the AllCIF Division IV girls' volleyball team. Berka, an outsider hitter, earned first-team honors, while Tellez, Viewpoint's libero, was named to the second team.

Commentary
      The cries of "four more years" haven't sounded this vile in a while. Apparently, though, the Marmonte League would like to keep the status quo until at least 2014, when the next Northern Area re-leaguing process is set to take shape.
