Truck parking not welcome on streets
Complaints mention Lost Hills and Agoura roads
The Calabasas City Council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance that will prohibit the parking of truck tractors and trailers on certain city streets. Residents had expressed concerns about the vehicles parked on Lost Hills and Agoura roads for long periods of time. Public Works Director Robert Yalda said the two streets are the most impacted, but that police will also be monitoring Las Virgenes Road to ensure that the vehicles aren't just parked elsewhere. "I want to make sure we aren't offloading the problem to other streets in the area," Mayor Pro Tem Jonathon Wolfson said. "I think certain people will get creative in trying to find parking spaces." Councilmember James Bozajian brought up other areas of concern. "There are two stretches of road I'm concerned about," said Bozajian, who referred to two roads outside of city property—the county's portion of Agoura Road and Lost Hills Road going up to the landfill, also on county property. Calabasas Attorney Michael Colantuono said the city could not enforce the ordinance on county roads and recommended that staff speak with county officials about enforcing it on their own. "I believe what we have in front of us is satisfactory and will help the residents," Yalda said. The mayor agreed. "It sounds very reasonable and fair," said Mayor Mary Sue Maurer. "It sounds like it will take care of the problem of getting those large trucks off Agoura Road and Lost Hills while monitoring any kind of push into neighboring communities." According to a staff report, the city received numerous complaints from residents claiming that the trucks are creating noise and visual pollution as well as unsafe roadway conditions. |
