Critic wants lid on bottled water program
      Calleguas Municipal Water District was trying to make a point that its tap water is just as good as more expensive bottled water, but the effort may have backfired. Calleguas provides potable water to residents of Oak Park, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Camarillo, Simi Valley and part of Bell Canyon.

Truck parking not welcome on streets
Complaints mention Lost Hills and Agoura roads
      The Calabasas City Council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance that will prohibit the parking of truck tractors and trailers on certain city streets. Residents had expressed concerns about the vehicles parked on Lost Hills and Agoura roads for long periods of time.

Council members feeling neighborly
      Agoura Hills Mayor Denis Weber will conduct the first in a series of "Meet the Neighbors" sessions from 10 a.m. to noon Sat., Feb. 14 in front of Vons Market on Kanan Road. Councilmember Dan Kuperberg will join Weber at the market for a few hours to meet with people and share information on issues facing the city.

Calabasas politics
      A former Calabasas mayor and City Council member wants another crack at the job. Bob Sibilia, who served on the council from 1997 to 2001, is running for one of the three open City Council seats in the March 3 election. "What I'm hearing from people now is that there is a disconnect between city hall and residents," Sibilia said.

Wolfson proud of accomplishments
      Jonathon Wolfson belongs to a Calabasas City Council that has tackled groundbreaking issues, including a citywide smoking ban, restrictions on polystyrene (Styrofoam) and a plastic bag ordinance. If reelected to the council in the March 3 election, Wolfson said he will continue to look at the issues that are important to Calabasas residents.

Young gymnast chosen for national team
      A young Calabasas gymnast was selected out of approximately 500 athletes nationwide to participate in JumpStart National Testing in Broken Arrow, Okla., last month. Zoe Zafman, 12, of Calabasas, made this year's JumpStart National Team and earned the right to train at the upcoming JumpStart National Team Training Camp in Huntsville, Ala.

      An Agoura woman wants to rescue racehorses from a common fate following retirement— the slaughterhouse. Nicole Rawnsley was horri fied to learn that thoroughbreds are often sold at auction and then shipped to Canada and Mexico, where they are killed and turned into food.

Ronald McDonald charities to award scholarships
      Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, in partnership with the McDonald's Operators' Association of Southern California, will award $304,000 in scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills and community involvement.

      TELEVISION GRAVEYARD— Workers for California Recycles share the heavy lifting during the Feb. 7 electronic waste recycling day in Calabasas. The city has two free collection events each month beginning with the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Albertson's parking lot, 26521 Agoura Road in Calabasas.

Student goes for Spotlight
      The Music Center of Los Angeles County has announced the 91 high school students chosen as performing arts semi-finalists for the 21st annual Music Center Spotlight Awards. Among them is Evan Schwarz of Calabasas, an 11-grader from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, who performed in the non-classical dance category.
