Economy takes a toll

Agoura Cycles in the Ralphs shopping center at Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Kanan Road announced it is closing. It's been one of the longest running businesses in Agoura Hills.

"It is not economically feasible to remain open and continue to operate," owner Joel Richman said in a brief e-mail to his customers on Jan. 3.

The store specialized in mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX models and clothing and accessories. It also offered a full-service repair shop staffed by professional mechanics.

At the Agoura Hills shop, customers could find information about upcoming bike events and network with others in the sport.

Richman is holding a going-out-of-business sale for his remaining merchandise, fixtures and tools. He has a bicycle store in Sherman Oaks that will close also.
